Why Is My Car Shaking?
Â
Have you ever experienced shaking while driving in your vehicle? It's an unexpected situation that can be cause for concern. If you're worried about the safety of your car due to shaking or vibrations in your floor or steering wheel, contact Pinnacle Nissan to schedule an appointment with our service department. Our expert team can take a look at your vehicle from front to back to determine if there are problems with your:
Engine
Shaking can be caused by engine issues that are related to your spark plugs. The average vehicle that we see in our service department will require spark plug service around 80,000 miles. Though, this varies based on the make and model of the car that you own. Your air filter may be to blame as well. Clogs or a worn-out filter can prevent appropriate airflow from going through your engine.
Brakes
Having brakes that are worn out can cause your vehicle to shake, especially when you're pressing down on the brake pedal. This is a service that you should expect to schedule by about 50,000 miles. You may need brake service more frequently if you have driving habits that will wear down your pads and rotors faster than your average driver. Check your owner's manual or talk to one of our technicians to develop an appropriate maintenance schedule for your brakes.
Axles
The axles that connect the front and back wheels on your vehicle can become damaged if your car is hit, if you run over something in the road, etc. Vibrations or shaking will generally occur with acceleration, which is true for problems with your CV joints and driveshaft.
Tires
Your tires may be out of alignment, which can cause shaking to occur as your tires pass over the road. We'll check to see if everything is properly aligned, balanced and inflated. We'll let you know if your tread is wearing low so you can plan for a new set of tires in the near future. Let us know if you experience any grinding or odd smells when you're driving. This could also indicate problems with your tires, especially if you feel excessive heat coming off of them when you're done driving.
Contact Pinnacle Nissan if you're interested in bringing in your vehicle for an inspection or service.
