Federal EV Tax Credit

What Is the Clean Vehicle Credit and When Does It End?

The federal Clean Vehicle Credit offers up to $7,500 back on eligible electric vehicle purchases. This incentive is set to expire on September 30, 2025, unless extended by Congress. Buyers may also be eligible for a home EV charger tax credit through June 30, 2026.

How Is the $7,500 Credit Calculated?

The credit is divided into two equal parts:

  • $3,750 for meeting U.S. battery component requirements
  • $3,750 for meeting mineral sourcing requirements

The total amount depends on how and where the vehicle is manufactured.

What Must a Nissan EV Have to Qualify?

To be eligible, the EV must meet the following criteria:

  • Brand new and final assembly in North America
  • Battery capacity of at least 7 kWh
  • Manufacturer must be on the qualified list
  • MSRP must fall under $80,000 for SUVs, trucks, and vans or $55,000 for other vehicles
  • Sale must be reported to the IRS
  • Buyer must fall within the federal income limits

Why Should EV Buyers Act Before the Deadline?

Once the program ends, the savings go with it. If you wait, you may miss out on a federal tax credit that could significantly reduce your out-of-pocket cost. Acting now gives you access to both vehicle and home charger incentives.
