The moonroof on your Nissan is excellent for extra sunshine and fresh air as you're driving. However, as with any other car part, the moonroof may encounter problems that keep it from working correctly. Whether you are having trouble getting your vehicle's moonroof to open or close, our Nissan dealership has some tips to help you troubleshoot the issue.
Clean the Moonroof
Dirt, dust, and other debris can make their way into your Nissan's moonroof and interfere with its ability to function. Therefore, one of the first things we recommend is cleaning the moonroof to see if that solves your problem. To clean off the surface, use a soft cloth and a cleaning agent to gently remove any dirt that may have accumulated in the moonroof's components.
Adjust the Guides
After cleaning the moonroof, you'll want to adjust its guides. First, locate the mounting bolts on the rear jaw and gently loosen them. Loosening the bolts allows you to reposition the moonroof correctly. After making those adjustments, make sure that the ground terminal is connected to a decent ground. It helps to use a battery marker to ensure a proper connection. Finally, look for the relay coil and make sure it is connected to a 12V battery.
Check for Cracks
If your moonroof still won't open or close after you've cleaned it and made sure that the wiring and positioning are correct, it's time to see if components in the moonroof may be broken. One part that can break is the seal, which is an issue that needs to be addressed by a mechanic. If you spot a broken seal in your moonroof, give our service team a call or book a service appointment online to have the part replaced and get your moonroof working as it should.
Reset the Moonroof
In the absence of broken parts, resetting your moonroof may get it to open and close properly again. To reset the moonroof, flip the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Then, press and hold your moonroof's button towards the full-tilt position. Repeat that step a second time once the moonroof is tilted upwards. After getting the moonroof to tilt upwards a second time, hold the button for an additional four seconds. The moonroof should make small adjustments while staying in the tilted position. At that point, release the button, and wait another five seconds. This should reset the moonroof.
