A Nissan executive told Auto Express last month that the automaker is considering creating a brand-new platform that will accommodate a full range of electric and hybrid cars.

Nissan Senior Vice President Shiro Nakamura says that Nissan sees a much broader future for their green cars than just the bestselling Leaf, leaving open the door for other models with a similar powertrain. Over the years, the automaker has created several prototypes and concept cars, but none have been made into a market-ready vehicle. Nakamura hopes all that will change once Nissan has this new platform that will make manufacturing these green cars much easier.

One of the most recent electric models to come out is the Nissan IDx, which was a hugely popular concept when it debuted a few years ago. The creation of this new flexible platform should give fans of the car a new hope that a market-ready version will make its way to Nissan dealerships around the U.S.

It’s exciting to see Nissan continue to be at the forefront of innovating and creating what will surely be the standard cars of the future. For now, take a look at our stock of the popular Nissan Leaf or any one of our other top-selling cars and SUVs near Phoenix.
