The 2016 Nissan Altima has just been recognized with a Top Safety Pick+ designation. Given out by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, this is the top rating offered by the institute for cars who receive high scores on all crash tests, while also offering a front crash prevention system.
The 2016 Altima is all-new this model year, receiving a terrific exterior and interior update that includes a long list of standard and available safety equipment. The list includes the previously mentioned predictive forward collision warning system that uses radar technology to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and warns the driver if it detects rapid deceleration of surrounding cars.
"Nissan is very proud to have our best-selling vehicle recognized by IIHS for excellence in vehicle safety," said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA). "Like the new Maxima and Murano, Altima sets high standards in a very competitive class for styling, performance and value as well as safety. We at Nissan are gratified to see that another of our core models has been recognized for excellent design and vehicle safety."
Other available safety systems include forward emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot warning. The 2016 Altima isn’t the only Nissan vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ designations; the 2016 Maxima, Murano, Sentra and Rogue also earned top marks.
