Experiencing road rage, or at least a lot of stress on the road, is very common, and it’s something that most drivers have dealt with at one time or another. And while most of the time it’s just a simple annoyance, sometimes road rage can become quite dangerous if we let it get out of hand. To help our customers find a little peace during their time on the motorways, we‘ve put together some tips on how to avoid road rage and to keep calm while driving.
1) Move to the next lane if someone is tailgating you. Yes, it’s very tempting to simply slow down or stay the course if someone is tailgating you, especially if the next lane is free and clear for passing. But most experts suggest that simply moving over yourself can avoid significant road rage and help keep you stress-free on your drive home.
2) Try not to blow your horn. It might surprise some people, but your horn was not meant to be the way for you to express your annoyance with your fellow drivers. In fact, its simple purpose is to alert drivers who may be about to have an accident or to alert them to some other form of danger on the highway. To help a poor situation avoid becoming a bad one, simply lay off the horn and let the driving indiscretion slide.
3) Listen to calming music. Whether it’s putting on the soothing voices of National Public Radio or some funky jazz tunes, playing calming music during your drive is known to reduce stress. So they next time someone cuts you off in rush hour traffic, simply throw on Diane Reims or Miles Davis and sit back and relax.
