The current Nissan 370Z is set to bow out of the market by 2017 and when it does there's a chance a crossover Z model could take its place. According to sources in the industry, Nissan is considering the option in an effort to bring new life into the Z brand and reach a brand-new customer base, especially in the North American market.
Longtime fans of the Z models may not be fond of Nissan's latest idea, but it could actually prove to be a step in the right direction. With demand for crossovers on the rise in the U.S., a performance-ready sport model could be successful on the market. Early in the summer, Nissan's head honcho Shiro Nakamura expressed to the media that he wanted to take a different path with the Z brand and develop an affordable sports car that will appeal to younger generations. A compact sport crossover may be just the vehicle to get the attention of Millennials and reignite the Z badge.
Rumors about the possible model are already making their way around the auto world, suggesting the Z crossover could arrive in less than two years. It's also being said the model will be similar in size to the Nissan Juke and come equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged engine. According to sources, a potential hybrid model could even emerge on the market, offering first-class power and excellent fuel efficiency.
So far, no information regarding a Nissan Z crossover has been confirmed, but with the end of the 370Z model quickly approaching we should receive details soon. Keep an eye on our blog for future information about the Z brand and the potential Z crossover.
