Nissan has taken new steps to help deter drowsy driving through the development of their "Driver Attention Alert" system. Available on the 2015 Nissan Murano and soon-to-be-released 2016 Nissan Maxima, the program uses audible and visual signals to warn drivers when it's in their best interests to pullover and take a break, preventing possible collisions.
By outfitting their vehicles with Driver Attention Alert, Nissan hopes to increase safety for drivers, their passengers and fellow travelers. Just last year, AAA conducted a study where 37 percent of drivers admitted to falling asleep while driving, and out of those drivers, 11 percent said they had done it within the past year. Nissan's newly released Driver Attention Alert works to dissuade drivers from driving in these types of scenarios by monitoring steering input patterns and warning individuals when their driving is in line with that of a drowsy driver. When dangerous driving is detected, the system lets out an audible signal and an amber cup lights up on the dash with a message stating, "Take a break?" It is then the driver’s responsibility to stop the car and rest for a while.
Nissan's Driver Attention Alert is just one way the automotive industry is working towards making the roads safer. You can find the system on the 2015 Nissan Murano available now at Pinnacle Nissan or on the upcoming 2016 Nissan Maxima.
